Text Box: Wills
A Will is a formal legal document that deals with what happens to your assets upon your death.  There are many good reasons for making a Will, but the main benefit is to make sure the people you want to benefit from your estate do.
If you do not make a Will then your assets would be distributed under what are known as the intestacy rules, which sets out which family members would benefit and these may not be the people you would choose if you had made a Will.  This is particularly important if you are not married to your partner (or registered as a civil partnership) as under the intestacy rules this person would not be entitles to your estate.
Not only does your Will set out who should benefit but it also can cover over points which could lead to a saving of tax and Wills can also be very useful for setting up trusts for minor children or the disabled.
Your Will does not have to be expensive and the cost of preparing a single Will would be in the region of £60 + VAT (£70.50) and for a couple £120 + VAT (£141).  However we do offer a small discount in these fees for the retired.
The whole process is relatively short and should be completed in several weeks.  Please feel free to contact us for further information.
